YP Search Team update

Yesterday afternoon we confirmed the final candidate for the Youth Pastor search team. The proposed committee will include three existing members: Micah Fries, Craig Graham and Theresa Messner. The church will then also be voting on three aditional members this Sunday after the evening service. They are: Ron Moutray Jr., Mrs. Robin Perkins and Cameron Moore.

I have been on search committees. It is tough work if done right. With that being said, this is what I think...the search team should do their search, nominate a candidate after having the parents and elders meet with the candidate and listened to any concerns. Then, the committee needs to submit their recommendation to the eldership. The elders need to decide whether to hire, not a vote by the congregation. My two cents worth.

I think it should be the congregation that decides on a pastor for the church - any pastor. In Acts 6, the Apostles of Jesus had the entire congregation decide who would be the deacons. Also, the entire church is responsible for matters of doctrine and discipline (Matt. 18:17, 1 Cor. 5, 2 Cor. 2, and 2 Tim. 4), so it would naturally be their responsibility to find and choose a shepherd that woud ensure such things. Let every believer (member) of the church (who each one has the Holy Spirit) pray about and decide under the advice, not dictate, of the elders.

I agree with anonymous. The church (members) should pray seeking God's man and vote accordingly without the dictate of the elders.
